We are thrilled to share that Boxman is now part of the 3 Islands Intermodal (3i) family. 3i is New Zealand’s only locally-owned nationwide port services provider, and their decision to acquire us means Boxman remains in Kiwi hands, with Kiwi decision-makers, serving Kiwi communities.
For our customers, nothing changes on the ground. You will still deal with the same people, get the same quality of service, and pay a fair price, just as you always have with us. What does change is how far we can reach. With 3i’s nationwide network and 700-strong workforce behind us, we are able to bring Boxman’s container sales, hire, modification, and storage services to more of New Zealand than ever before.
We think that is something worth celebrating. Our new CEO Gavin McIntyre agrees, and he put it well when he said the decision to acquire Boxman was an easy one, especially since 3i was already one of our customers.
"We are very pleased to have purchased the Boxman assets and contracts, and to welcome the Boxman team into the 3i family. Having been fortunate to purchase it out of receivership, we plan to focus it on providing great sales, leasing and modification services to existing and new customers."
That experience as a customer matters to us. It means our new owners understand what good service actually looks like from the receiving end, and that is exactly the standard we will continue to hold ourselves to.
We are also excited to share that our depot expansion is already underway. We opened a brand new location in Mount Maunganui last month, and over the next two years we are opening five more around the country. Each new depot will come with upgraded facilities and improved modification services, so wherever you are in New Zealand, getting to a Boxman depot will be easier than ever.
One thing that makes 3i a great fit for us is how they think about their own people. With 7.5% of 3i owned by its employee trust, their team members are shareholders in the business. That kind of long-term, community-minded thinking lines up naturally with the way we have always operated at Boxman.
